Trade Licensing in Queensland
In Queensland, the QBCC licenses contractors and tradespersons across all major building trades under the Queensland Building and Construction Commission Act 1991. Electricians are separately licensed through the Electrical Safety Office.

Contractor Licence (QBCC)
Required to contract for work valued over $3,300 (or $1,100 for plumbing and drainage). Multiple trade categories available.
Site Supervisor Licence (QBCC)
Allows supervision of building work contracted by others. Does not allow the holder to personally contract for work.
Electrical Contractor Licence (ESO)
Issued by the Electrical Safety Office for businesses that contract electrical work.
Electrical Worker Licence (ESO)
Required for individuals performing electrical installation, repair or maintenance work in Queensland.

Licence Fees
QBCC licence fees depend on annual turnover and licence category. Fees start from approximately $200 for low-value contractors and increase with turnover thresholds. The Electrical Safety Office charges approximately $180 to $300 for electrical worker licences. Check QBCC.qld.gov.au for the current fee schedule.
Renewal Requirements
QBCC licences are renewed annually and fees are based on declared annual turnover. QBCC requires licensees to lodge annual financial declarations. Continuing professional development is required for some categories. Public liability insurance minimum of $50,000 is mandatory.
